The actives behind the numbers
Eight actives across the whole catalog, one to a formula, each at a stated strength. A load rating is mostly a statement about which of these is in the bottle and how much of it, so this is the page behind every number.
The full INCI list for any product is on its own page, in descending order, with nothing left off.
Vitamin C
Typical load 2
Stabilised L-ascorbic acid at a stated 15%, buffered to pH 3.4. Supports tone and the look of uneven pigment. Morning use, under sunscreen.
Retinaldehyde
Typical load 4
A retinoid one step along from retinol and short of the strongest clinical retinoids. Night use only, built up from one night a week.
Niacinamide
Typical load 1
Vitamin B3 at 5%. Calms the look of redness, refines the appearance of pores, supports the barrier. One of the easiest actives to tolerate daily.
Exfoliating Acids
Typical load 3–5
Glycolic (AHA) and salicylic (BHA) at stated strengths. Lift dead surface cells. These carry the highest load numbers in the catalog for a reason.
Azelaic Acid
Typical load 2
10%, in a cream base rather than a gel. Evens the look of tone and calms visible redness without the sting the name suggests.
Hyaluronic Acid
Typical load 0
Multi-weight sodium hyaluronate with glycerin. Draws water into the upper layers of the skin. Applied to damp skin, sealed with a cream.
Ceramides
Typical load 0
Barrier lipids in a physiological ratio with cholesterol and fatty acids. This is what an over-exfoliated barrier is short of, and what an unloaded night is for.
Mineral Filters
Typical load 0
Non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Sit on the surface and reflect UV. Suitable for reactive skin and for the week after a heavy night.
What is not in anything
No fragrance of any kind — no parfum, no essential oils, no masking fragrance. No denatured alcohol high in a formula. No colourants except the iron oxides that give the tinted sunscreen its shade, which are there to do a job. Nothing in this catalog is taken by mouth, and nothing in it is intended for any use other than application to the skin.
